Got Your Clear Fanny Packs Ready? ‘Thank U, Next/Sweetener’ Tour Is Coming!
Hate the hold up at concert security lines? Ariana Grande is already 10 steps ahead of you.
Last December, Grande added additional dates to her Sweetener World Tour due to overwhelmingly popular demand. Back in October she mentioned to a fan that Sweetener 2019 would be combined with “AG5” (short for Thank U, Next).
Although we’re all pretty excited about the tour dates to come, we know that the road has not been easy for America’s Sweetheart. As many may recall, back in 2017, her concert in Manchester, England was targeted with a suicide attack at Britain's Manchester Arena where 22 were reported dead. Following that traumatizing experience for the artist was the unfortunate passing of her ex-boyfriend and close friend, Mac Miller.
All this to say that the artist is taking extra precaution for not only herself, but fans alike in upcoming shows. In a photo she posted to Instagram on Sunday, February 24th, 2019, she wrote,
“dear sweetener / thank u next tour audience friends, 🌫✉️ we’re sending out emails soon encouraging you to order a clear bag to bring your things into the venues as security is going to be very precise and smooth but for sure super strict. they’re super cheap and simple but having them ahead of time will for sure help things go as smooth as possible so if you see this in your emails please don’t ignore it! my team n i appreciate it very much! p.s. any clear bags within a certain size (all info will be in the ✉️) are totally fine to bring if you already have your own, i just wanted to make sure you saw these and knew about all this ahead of time so everything can go as smoothly and safely as possible. love you. thank you!”
As expected, the bags quickly sold out and Ariana’s comments were flooded by fans frustrations. The clear fanny pack sported by Grande sold on Ariana’s website went for $8.00 each. On the bright side, clear bags are so in, and you can find them almost anywhere just a Google search or Forever 21 away.
The bag policy on stubhub.com for Ariana Grande’s ‘Sweetener/Thank U, Next’ Tour specifically states that all bags must be clear. For clarification, the site does list that you may bring your own clear bag and that it doesn’t have to be ‘Sweetener/ Thank U, Next’ Tour merch branded. Regulations for entry with bags are listed as follows:
Each fan may carry 1 bag
All bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
An exception will be made for medically necessary items after thorough proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose
Also, please note: NO cameras or recording devices are permitted. (Cell phones with cameras ARE allowed).
Despite the extra step that some fans are annoyed by, many are also pleasantly surprised and praising Grande for their appreciation of her efforts to provide safety and crowd control to those attending her concerts.
Fans commented on Twitter:
In the grand scheme of things, she’s just looking out for the greater good of her fans. Be sure to place your order for a clear bag so that security can say “thank u, next” and we can get on with the show!
