Are Lash Extensions The New Mascara?
First let me start with a question: "If you had to give up fake hair or fake lashes for the rest of your life which would you choose?"
If you're like me it's a no-brainer. Bye-bye fake lashes!
This year at Beautycon LA I got the chance to talk to a few major beauty bloggers on the pink carpet and get the inside scoop on their beauty routines, go-to products and much more. I even got to ask a few of them that exact question, but to my surprise most of their answers were the exact opposite of what I expected. Almost everyone decided to keep the fake lashes and ditch the hair!
Clearly there's a trend evolving in the lash industry and even major brands like Fenty Beauty, KKW Beauty, Kylie Cosmetics, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Huda Beauty decided to hold off on putting out a mascara formula.
According to a new report by Business of Fashion, lash lifts and extensions might be overtaking the mascara category. The report went on to say that although mascara is the beauty industry's largest category, its growth is expected to take a dip from 4 percent in the last three years to 2 percent through 2021, according to Euromonitor.
Lashes generally cost between $150 and $200. For the full set: $135 and $55 to $65 for refills. As for the volume technique the average price ranges from $200 to $300. Of course, depending on where you live, and where you're getting them done, these prices will vary. They are an added expense, but after speaking to most average women that wear lashes on the regular, their take is they don't even feel the need to wear makeup on most days. So I guess you're saving on makeup? Yay!
I'm sure classic mascara isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so don't fret. However, if you've been on the fence about trying lash extensions maybe it's finally time to see what all the hype is about. The numbers don't lie!
